The Allen Police Department is instructing the R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) system
for women. Five Allen officers are certified to instruct R.A.D. The
first class consists of four (4) evenings lasting three (3) hours each.
The dates of the first class are
Tuesday July 30th,
Tuesday August 6th,
Tuesday August 13th, and Tuesday August 20th. The class will meet from
6:30-9:30 PM.
The class location will be at the First United Methodist Church of
Allen, 601 South Greenville Avenue in the gymnasium. The class is
designed for women only and they must be a minimum of 17 years of age.
The R.A.D. Systems basic physical defense instructional objective is:
"To develop and enhance the options of self defense, so they may become
viable considerations to the woman who is attacked." Many studies have
shown that: "It is only by resisting, that women have a chance to avoid
being
raped." This class is limited to 25
participants and those wishing to enroll can contact Sgt. Jon Felty at
the Allen Police Department CRU. There is a $25.00 per student fee that
covers a workbook and other class materials. See the contact
information below. Applicants may seek enrollment starting June
19, 2013.
